Where We Are in the Story
Immediately before this, nicodemus and new birth carries the story through John 3:1-21. Here, in The Judean countryside, near places of abundant water, as Jesus' ministry grows, John the Baptist refuses rivalry and rejoices as the Bridegroom's friend. His final testimony sends attention upward to the Son, who speaks God's words and gives eternal life. The story then moves into the samaritan woman at the well (John 4:1-42).
